Lightning Strike open mic night

Lighting Strike

Open mic night

Come to the launch of Lightning Strike Open mic night. We have 15 places to offer and a 5-minute slot for each artist.

Say your words aloud into the ether. Speak something into existence, ritual, shape. Tease out a piece of writing from many years ago and give it arms, legs, a voice, life. Read something written on your way here, just now. Manic, frantic, written, improvised, lyrics. Anything, anything. All forms of writing in a circus, in a circuit.
We have 15 places to offer and a 5-minute slot for each artist. First time performers are welcome, this is a supportive and open space.
About the space –
hARTslane is a very welcoming and warm space, however, the temperature inside is not. We are located in a former motorbike garage and the gallery has no heating.
We have a small plug-in heater, but it is strongly advised to bring a hot water bottle, warm clothing or flask (why not…) for when you’re in the space. Camping energy is what this will most likely look like. Saying our words around the non-existent fire.
This open mic is a pop-up event. We will be rolling in between hours 6-8pm and then packing everything up and going back out. We have approximately 15 seats and the rest are standing.
The tickets are £5 to ensure that those who sign up will attend. And so that these events can grow and we can gather more equipment, people and resources! Entry is free for anyone who wants to watch, so bring your friends!
Performers please arrive at 6:15pm, as we will begin at 6:30pm sharp.
hARIslane is a safe and inclusive space for all. We have a policy of ‘Saying Yes to Artists’ as long as the events are in compliance with our safeguarding & equality, diversity & inclusion guidelines outlined on our website.

We will not tolerate any forms of discrimination.
The gallery entrance is wheelchair accessible and there is a wheelchair access toilet in the space.

Curated by: Rachel Lonsdale, Max Melvin and Sarah Athina Nahas

Guest curator: Siin Lee

Tickets are £4

Pit of the waters tongue is about the dissolving boundaries between all life on earth. It centres on the idea written by Daisy Hildyard in her book The Second Body that “To be an animal is to be in possession of a physical body, a body which can eat, drink and sleep; it is also to be embedded within a worldwide network of ecosystems”. This idea of tapping into the intangible presents an art form which is its own document and has parallels with the ecosystem.
